Westbrook – Gilman P. Bouchard, 71, of Declaration Dr. died Sunday July 7, in a Portland hospital surrounded by his loving family after a battle with multiple myeloma. He was born in Madawaska, the son of Benjamin and Eva Picard Bouchard. He was raised and educated in Madawaska. Gil joined the US Army in 1959.  He served in Korea from 1959 to 1960. While serving in Germany in 1961, he met the love of his life, Rosemarie, and they were married in 1962. They started their family, and  returned to Ft Devens, MA in 1965. Gil served in Viet Nam from 1967 to 1968,  then returned to Germany.  In 1971, they made their home in Westbrook.  He retired from the Army in 1984 as First Sergeant. Gil worked at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham where he retired in 2004 as a Captain of Corrections Officers.  
In 2007, Gil was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, caused from Agent Orange.  His battle was hard fought with family and friends constantly by his side.
Gil and Rosemarie began to winter at McDill AFB in Tampa Florida in 2005.   While there, they enjoyed meeting many new friends and walking on the beach.    
He was a volunteer fireman for Engine 3 in Westbrook and was a huge fan of Westbrook baseball.  Gil was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  
Gilman was predeceased by a son, David Bouchard in 1996,  brothers Norman and Bertrand,  and sister Gail.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosemarie Muller Bouchard, son Michael Bouchard and fiance Leticia Reyes, of Stafford, VA., daughter Judy Bouchard of Gorham, daughter in law Denise Bouchard-Russell and her husband Mark, of Westbrook, brothers Lionel Bouchard of Washington, Robert Bouchard of California, Joel Bouchard of Colorodo, sisters Gertrude Wingate of Ohio, Fernande Lavoie of Connecticut, Theresa Sirois of Caribou and Sister Cecile Bouchard of Canada.
He was "Opa" to 8 grandchildren, Angeline, Jasmine, David , Jacob,  Danielle, Derek, Julian and Harrison, 3 step grandchildren, Cynthia, Linda, and Alex.  
The Bouchard family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Maine Medical Center, especially in the Gibson Wing and Cancer Institute Outpatient IV Therapy for their care and support over the many years of his battle.  
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home 35 Church St. Westbrook. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday at St. Anthony Parish, Brown St. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
