Carroll “Red” Crimmin passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Wednesday March 28, with his wife Micki and daughter Ida by his side and went home to be with the Lord. He was born on March 25th 1929 to Mildred and Carroll Crimmin in South Portland where he was raised and attended South Portland schools. His last wish was to celebrate his 83rd birthday which he did, at the Gosnell House surrounded by family, which included his wife, children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, his sisters and many extended family members on Sunday 3/25/2012 at the Gosnell House. He joined the U.S Navy in 1947 and served on the USS Muliphen during the Korean conflict. He married Barbara Hall and they had six children, Ida, Bobby, Brenda, David, Scott, and Paul who he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife Myra “Micki” who he loved dearly. They were married for 24 years and they resided their entire marriage in Westbrook, the last 5 years at Longfellow Place, where they made many wonderful friends and where he was affectionately known as “The Gorvernor”. Red and Micki were both members of the American Legion Post 197 where he served as Chaplain for 7 years and post commander twice. He was also a member of the Westbrook Eagles and the Triangle Masonic Lodge where he was twice past master. He worked for 25 years for Cains Foods and retired from Maine Rubber. He volunteered for Special Olympics, veteran’s softball, and regional transportation. He always had a quick wit and a great sense of humor which he held onto until the end. As he has been known to say, “I never met a man or a woman I didn’t like.” He is also survived by his 5 children, Ida Bilodeau, her husband Steve and daughter Stephanie, Brenda Burrows, her husband Paul and children Josh and wife Laura, Jacob and wife Makayla and Kayla,  David and wife Mary and children Meghan and Brandon, Scott and wife Karen and children Ben, Ryan and Emily, Paul and wife Kris and children Zachary and Alec, stepson David and wife Trudy Bendixen and children David and Nikki, two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Pillsbury and Linda Wakem. He was predeceased by his son Robert “Bobby” Crimmin. At his request there will be no viewing. Services will be held at Blais and Hay Funeral home 35 Church Street, Westbrook on Tuesday April 3rd at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Gosnell Hospice House.
